Confidence is important when you speak. A few tips to help you:
- plan if you can before you speak, so you feel more confident that what you say is accurate
- keep what you say simple
- concentrate as much as you can on listening to the other person. Try and answer him / her, or ask questions to help the conversation along
- practise some essential phrases as much as you can so your pronuncation is good, and you feel comfortable using them. Even simple phrases like "Please", "Excuse me" or "thank you" are useful. Once you start using these naturally, you'll feel more confident in extending the conversation.
