Do you download files or music from the internet? The BBC reports that around 7 million people in the UK are involved in illegal downloads, and it's estimated that this costs the economy £120 billion a year.
A report examined consumer attitudes and found that people are confused about what is or isn't illegal – especially as so much is already free on the internet.
What's your opinion? Should the government criminalise people who download from the internet? Should everything be free anyway?

The government should not criminalise people who download from the internet at begining. It is a long way to change the present situation. There are too much material to free to acess, many people doesn't know if it is legal to download. The government should improve the awareness of legal downloads in public. But one thing is sure, the one who provide the material to be illegally downloaded should be criminalised.
good
Well i believe in copyright but its not a goal to accomplish in one night. It demands a culture to grow among internet users.
In my country, there is a phrase for this situation :
The knowledge raises as long as you share ;))
this was interesting to me. A download link which is not free usually requires account information,in other words it cannot be downloaded. How is possible to download such a link?
We should balance on this two extreme case, becase at one side, there should be copyright, so not everything can be free, or it will become a mess; at other side, people can download some information from the internet for free, some people uploaded it so other people can share it for free, why not? why everybody have to pay for it? And the problem is here, not every information can be uploaded to internet, since there's copyright. So what we can do is to protect the copyright and to charge those people who offer the illegal download.
Hi All, to avoid illegal downloading of files and music or any kind of media we should prevent them by enforcing the copy right laws strictly and make the people aware by flashing the message or giving warning before making duplicate copy or downloading it on violating the LAW.
This is very true that this leads to the heavy losses to the government and can easily be avoided by imposing heavy penalty and stringent actions against them
I'm from a developing country. I am hardly be able to afford the Internet service charge, so i cant imagine paying for legal downloads.
